18.04. A great opportunity to support independent retailers- World Record Store Day

Yes, I’m a fogey.  I still refer to stores that sell CDs as “record stores”.

I love to be able to spend an hour at a well-curated record store and browse the shelves, listen to some of the staff picks and check out what they’re playing in store.

I would be very sad if record stores no longer existed.  As sad if there were no more independent bookstores, or clothing stores, or interiors stores…

So today I thought I’d mention World Record Store Day which is this Saturday which gives everyone an excuse to go in and buy some new tunes in that old fashioned format- the CD.

My local favourite is Polyester Records on Brunswick Street in Fitzroy. They have heaps going on on Saturday with 20% off vinyl and CDs, books and DVDs as well as plenty of instore entertainment on the day.
And of course food- Tasty Record Store Day cupcakes supplied by Sticky Fingers Bakery
11am -12pm RRR Breakfasters
12pm – 1pm Alan Brough
1pm – 2pm Daniel Kitson & Claudia O’Doherty
2pm – 3pm Darren Hanlon
3pm- 4pm Geoffrey O’Connor

I’m definitely going to try and get down there around 1pm- Daniel Kitson is one of my favourite comedians!
He’s a wonderful storyteller- there are some of his recordings on his website http://www.danielkitson.com
