23.01. Geeky awesomeness and Food Rules by Michael Pollan and Maira Kalman

This morning I have been perusing this week’s Brain Pickings newsletter.  This newsletter is an absolute highlight every week- there always alot of fresh ideas and great thinking.  Often crossing traditional borders between disciplines.

Two things in this morning’s update really resonated with me.

The first is a marriage of astronomy, physics and music.  It is the longest musical palindrome ever and is rather hypnotic.  Daniel Starr-Tambor has assigned each planet a particular note along the natural harmonic series, the rhythm is dictated by the tempo of each planet’s orbital periods.

Take a look.

The second is a marriage of food and illustration. Food Rules, An Eater’s Manual by Michael Pollan and illustrated by Maira Kalman (first published in November last year).

I personally love Rule #73: Do All Your Eating at a Table.

Note to self, a desk is not a table.

Here is Maria Kalman talking about illustrating the book

I love the simple images and the sentiments that go with them.

I can’t wait to get this book. It looks absolutely inspirational.
