I thought it might be fun to keep a list of all the books I’ve read this year in order of how much I liked them, with a quick rating and a short comment.
So at the end of the year I should have my top…20 – if I have a good year.
So here goes:
The Garden of Evening Mists by Tan Twan Eng Sublime and seductive 5 / 5
Narcopolis by Jeet Thayil, an intriguing excursion to the opium smoking heart of Bombay 5 / 5
Sylvia Rafael, Mossad Agentin (German) by Moti Kfir & Ram Oren Fascinating story, compelling writing 4 / 5
Kinglake-350 by Adrian Hyland Brilliantly told account of Black Saturday’s events 4 / 5

Stoner by John Williams Dull Story, beautifully written. 3 / 5
Testimony by Halina Wagowska Great yarn, inspiring! 3 / 5
Pigeon English by Stephen Kelmen Charming and quiet if overhyped. 3 / 5
You’ll be Sorry when I’m Dead by Marieke Hardy Playful and fun. 3 / 5

Interesting you took on ‘Blood Meridian’, think I’ll go for ‘The Road’ next, just read ‘The Crossing’ this year, have one left in The Border Trilogy to go. Love McCarthy’s prose, so inspiring.
Hope you enjoy it. One of the girls at Book Club picked Blood Meridian- otherwise don’t think I would have taken it on- but thoroughly enjoyed it! I loved The Road too. Keen to hear what you think of it!
